    Linux

I agree with CurlingSteve. One note of caution, before you install Mandrake and set-up your dual boot system back-up your data in XP in case the install goes awry and your unit is messed up. Also set-up a system restore point in XP.
  9. Thanks Besttechie, My buddy, macmarauder was hoping there'd be a mac section. Thank you hitest
  10. Hi this FAQ originally coded by uberpenguin is a must read for people new to Linux. The Linux FAQ has a lot of information about Linux in general, dual booting, hardware requirements for Linux, buzz words and a lot more. It may have the information you seek. Linux FAQ hitest

  14. Both Red Hat 8 and 9 are solid Linux distros. Recently Red Hat stopped supporting that line of Red Hat products. In other words Red Hat is no longer providing security updates for 8 and 9. Fedora Core 2 the newest version of Red Hat is an open source product that is more up to date than Red Hat 8 or 9. Fedora would be a better choice to use. Fedora does have steeper hardware requirements than Red Hat 8 or 9. Here's a link to Fedora's hardware requirements. Fedora Core 2 Hardware Requirements
  15. Hi Nerelda, Here's a link to an old Linux FAQ that uberpenguin coded some time ago. I've received written permission from uber to link to his website. It has a lot of good information and links. Hope that helps. In the future we may post an updated FAQ here. I hope this helps somewhat. Linux FAQ Site hitest

  21. If you're curious about Linux you could try out Knoppix Linux. It is a Live Linux CD. This version of Linux boots completely from your CD ROM drive without the need to install anything on your hard drive. So you can try out Linux without messing with your Windows install. If you want to take the plunge and install Linux I'd go with Mandrake, Fedora, or Suse.
