Inexplicably a Winvirus program was installed on my PC. It was uninstalled and Adaware was run. Pop ups are still occurring. The popups show up in IE6 windows even though I exclusively use Firefox to browse the internet. Thanks in advance for any help! 6. Thanks for the info. It is definitely an older PC. It is an IBM Aptiva I bought back in 1999 and I think I added the memory in 2001.

  9. I saw the subject and wondered how that could possibly be in the humor section. Classic...I am surprised that video is not being circulated around the net.
  10. Don't most businesses have a plan? G4 seems like they have never really been sure what they wanted their identity to be. They try to be two many things at once. I preferred the days when Tech TV was it's own channel, and G4 played tons of Starcade!
  11. I currently have two PCs, one for me and one for my wife. We have cable internet, and I use a four-port D-Link router to share the connection. Recently a wireless card was added to my work laptop. Normally I just hook my laptop into one of the empty router ports. Since the laptop has wifi capability now, I am thinking I might like using that all around the house. I do not want to replace my current router with a wireless one because I would then need to add wireless cards to my two desktop PCs. Is it possible to use one of the existing ports in my router to lead out to a wireless router, so t

    Pretty Cool Mod

That is one cool mod! Can you make me a printer that looks like an old record player?
  13. Thanks for the tip. I went through the wizard and it raised another question: When it says that you should add in pairs, is that disregarding the original chip? Since there are three total slots that is kind of confusing to me... Thanks again!
  14. Hello all, I have a question regarding memory. I have a PC I would like to add memory to. It has three DDR slots, one of which has a 512 mb chip. I have an old pc with an extra 256 mb chip. The only labels I see on the motherboard are DIMM. I assumed these were different types, but after doing some googling I keep seeing reference to "DDR DIMM" together. Are these different? Also, how do I know the maximum amount of RAM that a slot will take? Does anyone have a good suggestion for an online reference. I did some googling but everything I found were sites selling memory but I could not find an

  16. Hello all. I have noticed lately when viewing some videos (I believe mostly .WMV files) occasionally the quality will be terrible. There is usually some combination of weird lines and double images. I have attached an example of a movie trailer I was trying to view. I am using Windows Media 10 with all updates, Windows XP SP2. I figured it could be a codec but there are so many I didn't know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions that would help me out? Thanks in advance!
  17. I am a relative newbie to web design. I am creating a page with links to images. I teach computer drafting, and the page I am working on is a description of topics covered in a course. This is very preliminary, but you can have a look here: Click here In the description I have added one link, to the Shell command. If the link is clicked, an animated gif opens that shows what the shell command does. I like having the page laid out as all text, so I do not want to use thumbnails. Instead of having to click the link, is it possible to set it up so that the user can hover over the link and have t

  19. Wow! Thanks everyone for the excellent replies! I used to frequent the TechTV boards under the name "wicks" and have floated over here. Everyone seems so friendly and helpful here! I actually do have a gmail account, but have hung on to my Cox account also. I may take the advice and start using that one more often. I believe when I initially got gmail it was not set up for pop/smtp so it is good to know that I can now do that. The weirdest thing about my Cox webmail is that it has worked for several months, then not worked for several months, worked again, and now it doesn't. irregularjoe, t
  20. Greetings All! I use Cox Communications for email. I like to use their webmail site while at work to check my email. Unfortunately it is not working very well for me. I get an error screen most times I log in. If I choose to go without frames, I usually get it to come up after refreshing a handful of times. From there, however, there is not a lot I can do. Cox tech support said that problem would happen if the connection I was using was a proxy connection (sorry if I said that incorrectly). Tech's at work say that we do not connect that way. Is there an alternative? I considered installi
