  1. oK here is further research. The original stick is manufactured by Hynix. I went to Hynix's website and typed in the part # on the stick HYMP532S64P6. This is what came up: DDR2 SDRAM MODULE SO DIMM 256MB| HYMP532S64P6 Description This Hynix unbuffered Slim Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module(DIMM) series consists of 512Mb 1st ver. DDR2SDRAMs in Fine Ball Grid Array(FBGA) packages on a 200pin glass-epoxy substrate. 2. If it helps, I looked at the old memory's information (which it didn't say DDR1 or 2, so I saw an HP replacement parts sticker that says "Replace with HP Spare 403896-001 and underneath had another # 9i05A1). I went to the HP Parts Store website and typed in 403896-001 and it came up with this: 256 MB, 533-MHz, 200 pin Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SODIMM) Double Data Rate (DDR533) SDRAM Memory Module. And then it said Part is not orderable in the HP Parts Store. I did a search by my model number and it pulled up 3 different memory options: the same one I listed above, a DDR2 memory
  3. I am so ticked, can someone please help? I own an HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop. I think the memory went bad b/c I kept getting BSOD's for memory parity errors, and then memory dumps. The computer finally crashed. I then tried to repair using the recovery CDs, and it wouldn't work, so I tried to completely reinstall Windows from the recovery cds, and I kept getting memory dump BSOD's and also it would tell me on every driver (.dll) file that it could not copy and asked me to skip. I assumed it was a memory error. I went onto newegg.com and ordered corsair memory. It will not fit! It's the same chi
  4. I tried the Windows Memory Diagnostic. I burned the iso file to a cd, and when I restarted my computer, it would not boot the file, even though the CD drive was the first in the boot order. I'll try the second suggestion you gave.
  5. Ok, my laptop is acting wacky. A couple months ago, I kept getting BSOD's with my laptop saything something about memory parity error. The BSOD's stopped and things were ok for a few months. Last night I had a bunch of programs open, working (which I normally) do and I got a BSOD that said something about physical memory dump. My computer would not turn back on, it kept trying to turn on, but would then restart. Finally I got the computer to turn on, and I spent the next few hours backing up my hard drive just in case. Everything worked fine for a few hours, and then I went to shut down an
  6. I want to create the same effect as at the following link: http://www.wayne-dalton.com/idrive_TorqueMaster.asp Scroll down to the bottom where it says Store Locater. If you let your mouse hover over the words "Three Button Remote" or "Security Light" you will see words and image appear to the right. How do I create this effect? Something like Swap Image??
  7. I have a HP Pavilion dv4000, I've had for maybe a little over a year. I take good care of it, with up to date Avast Virus program, Windows Defender Antispyware, I regularly cleanup with dumping of my temp files, cookies, etc. I even run a registry cleaner program. I have been recently getting a BSOD with a memory parity error. I don't know the exact wording with it does say memory parity error and something about hardware failure. What could this be due to? Is my pc close to crashing due to bad memory??? I'm really dumb when it comes to laptops.
  8. I went ahead and restored the computer. The trojan got on my thumb drive and then got on my main pc. I can't have that. So I'm starting from square one. Do you suggest I install the antivirus FIRST, before I connect to the pc?? I am thinking of installing a spyware program on there too, even before I attach it to the internet. Advice?
  9. wow, it will not allow me to download the file on this laptop. Everytime the download screen comes up, it goes away, and then IE closes. It's almost like the virus is blocking it or something. I once got it to unpack and then get to the wizard screen but then it just closes. Should I skip to the Brute Force part and then come back to the AVG part?
  10. I'm going through the steps this morning, but I have one quick question before I do. As soon as I turn on the laptop it says "software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and then has an Ok button. It pops up everything I boot up the laptop. Any way to get rid of this? THanks
  11. Wow, this is an extensive reply. I will try this tomorrow!! Thank you for the quick response!
  12. Thanks for the help. I just got SP2 downloaded onto a thumb drive, so I'm awaiting further instruction.... ha ah ha

  14. Here is the original topic of my problem and below is my Hijack log: http://www.besttechie.net/forums/Sp2-Download-t10266.html Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 11:21:56 AM, on 11/3/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MS32.exe C:\WIND
  15. never mind I found the Malware section, duh, I wasn't backed out far enough. I'll post my log here and in the Hijack section too if you guys can help me.
  16. Where is the Malware section? I looked for this and didn't see it. Yes the popups are NOT Microsoft related, they are ad popups. It's ridiculous, I don't even know where to start...
  17. I'm trying the link you suggested, I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks!
  18. My mother in law's computer is so jacked up - it's running Windows XP SP1, I tried to use the Microsoft Automatic Update, and the MS Update screen to download it, but popups are keeping me from doing it. Is there a way to download it somewhere online?
  19. no the laptop was not in my possession at the time. Haha, sounds like something from Mission Impossible.....
  20. Disabled the PCMCIA adapter, and same thing. Very long boot time, and then a black screen with white movable cursor. I wonder how removing the card could cause this...
  21. Ok I am in safe mode now! I went to Control Panel, System, and then Hardware. Under PCMCIA adapters, I saw Texas Instruments PCI-1510 CardBus Controller. Should I disable it, restart, and then enable it??
  22. Ok I am trying to get back to safe mode. When I choose safe mode, and it's goes through the list of drivers, it gets hung up on.... multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys After a LONG while, I COULD get to the safe mode, we'll see if it works again, and I'll try to go to devices
  23. I was afraid you would suggest a clean install, unfortunately I know she has extensive work records on her computer, and knowing her she didn't back up either. I wish there was an easier way of disabling the device, or some diagnostic to run in safe mode to fix this. If I CAN get to safe mode again, is there anything I can do there in the hardware properties?
  24. I also went into setup (F2) and disabled the wireless, to see if it would do anything. Nothing....same thing
