  1. To buy or not to buy: I am no longer interested in playing video games. On obesity: I do not attribute any significant percentage of obesity rates to technology.
  2. Moonstruck. A full moon only means the sun is shining on the moon from a particular angle. The moon is unchanged. It's distance from the earth is unchanged. It's gravitational attraction is unchanged. Now, if in addition to swarms of bugs you begin to see wherewolves, THAT'S the full moon at work.
  3. It's not clear that the account is "sending out" spam mails. You are getting returned mail? Returned from where? Where was it sent? Random addresses? Returned mail does not contain spam links, it just states the email was undeliverable and why. So where is this spammy link, exactly? Or are you receiving spam mail, like any email account is susceptible to? Does AOL mail provide any mail filters at all?
  4. For all we know, Facebook et al are nothing BUT intelligence operations. Not gonna forget my first signup with FB. I hadn't even finished the account and people I know were welcoming me to FB. Even worse? I hadn't used my real name.

  6. The ones that touched me today: Law of Mechanical Repair After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch or you'll have to pee. Law of Probability The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act. Law of the Theater At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last. Wilson's Law As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it. A corollary to Wilson's Law: As soon as you become engrossed in a new televisions series and tell all your friends to watch it, it will be c
  7. I can't come to any useful conclusions about what's going on in Egypt. Party it's my own ignorance about the Egyptian government and recent Egyptian history, but the news reports are biased, conflicting, and all over the place, so, I'll ask a few questions: Were there any options for "the people" to speak out other than through demonstrations? I mean, we (the U.S.) have elections where we get to pick which crook is in charge but, they have nothing at all? It's literally a dictatorship with no representation whatsoever? How does the military manage, in Egypt and elsewhere, to "take over" the ad
  8. if I remember correctly, this article discusses what you need or can live without: Paul Thurrott's Windows Supersite: Remove the Windows Features You Don't Need
  9. I know how to do it using the Tools menu, but you've got the menu bar hidden and I don't know for sure which, if any, of the icons still showing are for "Tools." Once you set up your folder the way you like, choose "Folder Options" from the "Tools" menu or icon, choose the "View" tab, then the "Apply To Folders" button under the heading "You can apply the view (such as details or icons) that you are using for this folder to all folders of this type."
  10. I'm finicky so I don't LIKE the idea of leaving some stuff behind to "bounce," but if those sources can't be bothered to provide a "Change E-Mail Address" link anywhere ... ta heck wit 'em.
  11. I've been with one provider for .... longer than I care to remember. Of course everything I do online, every forum, every account, every newsletter, and all the things I can't remember, needs to be updated. Days go by and I get yet another e-mail on my old-soon-to-be-discontinued e-mail account and I go, "Oh crap! I forgot about that one!" And do they make it easy? No! Of course not! Some I can't figure out how to "change" the address, so I have to sign up with my new address, ensure that went through, then cancel the old account. (Not to mention friends & family that don't seem to "get it
  12. Autocratic control over hardware and software has some appealing aspects, doesn't it?
  13. Wow, did you get caught up in the hype or something? (Procrastinate a little more and the avatar will be current again.)
  14. As long as routine maintainance is performed on the litter box (or they're outside cats) ... Personally, I'd far rather maintain a litter box than ever pick up dog poop. Eva!
  15. Sorry, had to laugh at that one. None of my neighbors say they can smell anything either. Me? I often can't even go outside it's so bad. I have to close the windows on days when the breeze is just so. But, nope, no smell, poop sitting in the yard smells like angel's breath to them.
  16. What the H happened to Mexico? Drugs? There always were drugs, so, what's changed?
  17. Doh! That's one of those answers that when you hear it, you know you KNEW it. Dang.
  18. Any e-mail address can be the username of a Google account. I see this all the time when someone sets up a YouTube account as they now require a linked Google account. If you provided a Yahoo address for YouTube, you also probably set up a linked Google account using that address as the username. Google currently doesn't allow you to be signed into two different accounts at the same time, hence the need to sign out of one to access the other (they say they're working on changing this limitation).
  19. (And they say the OTHER party has no sense of humor ...)
  20. Sounds ideal, but I can't get that page to load even if I go there using a method other than your link. Huh. I have used Wiki for other things as recently as last night, so it's not Wiki. I'll work on it when I have more time. Again, sounds like what I'm lookin' for, thanks.
  21. Have to check that later as the page isn't loading -- Wikipedia's home page isn;t loading either. Thanks for the idea.
  22. This IS the twenty-first century, right?
  23. I was hopin' there's a setting to ignore autoplay on individual drives, if it doesn't exist or no one knows, then I'd prefer to "deal with" closing the autoplay dialog. It's only once a day.
  24. To make matters more confusing, last night I left a thumb drive plugged in and went to bed. Today when I "woke" the computer that hard drive "autoplayed" and asked what I wanted to do ... but the thumbdrive DID NOT trigger an alert. (When I hot-plug the thumbdrive it does trigger an alert, which I'd like it to continue doing, hence my dilemma.) Why is that?
