well I think I found the problem. my video is using 16 megs of my ram so that leaves me with only 112 ram. everything loaded fine til it got to the desktop and then it quit. will knoppix run with 112 ram?

ok...I finally got my free ubuntu cds today. all 5 of them. there was a installation disk and a live cd in each package. so using the live cd disk I rebooted, the configuration did it's thing then a blank screen came up and it just sits there and does nothing. it says on the package that it needs 128 ram and that's what I got. any suggestions?

ok...got DSL..reboot to run off cd-rom desptop is very high and very narrow..cannot see buttons at top. clicked on everything I COULD see to adjust the desptop no relief in sight. so my question is: how do I adjust my desktop?

Then I can assume that there are a "LOT" of us that have no need to read these posts. how do they determine how many people are using what os? who does these polls to figure out the percentage? are they as reliable as the election exit polls? Maybe people using older os don't have as many problems. I think we would really be surprised how many people still use the older operating systems.

if you want something to worry about, SSA and IRS have more info on you then you care to know about. this has been going on for many, many years. also, ask yourself why the New York Times held this info for a year before saying anything about it. waitng for just the right moment. now that's what I call a conspiracy. well no wonder the dam thing didn't work...hahaha thanks well since I already have a copy of nt 4.0 I guess I could throw that on one of my other machines. anyway I got another machine out in the shop that has 128 megs ram...I'm still looking ....thanks for all the info.

something called reactos. it was like 48 megs. ubuntu is like 600 megs thats why I didn't try that. I found knoppix that is like 50 megs...I'm gonna get that. oh, and I only have 128 megs ram on this computer but I was hoping to get something that would run on the junker with 32 megs ram.

I did the image thing and it worked...sort of. thanks to you also hitest. more info here....it loaded up but said I didn't have emulation...it worked partially...it showed the desptop but no files..I'm gonna find another version. I'll be baaaaaaaack.

looking back at my posts on dec 12 I have more questions. I downloaded a file that said "live cd". it was a zip file so I unzipped it. now I have the file that says"live cd.iso" my question is what am I supposed to do with this file? I wrote this file to cd and rebooted but nothing happened. is there something else I need to do to this file? I am more confused.
