  1. Try uninstalling Windows Update "kb942615". Now see If you can then use IE7. There have been reported problems I found searching with this update. But the boys at MS think all those posting it are crazy, and that it's some form of melware infecting IE6 that's not compatible with IE7. They insist it's not in the browser or the update. It is a security fix for SP2. SP3 might solve this problem.
  2. Is this what your trying to do. burning CD image of Vista
  3. You could see if you have a ghost copy in your AppData folder. Vista likes to change things into virtual files. Look in the "C:\Users\User_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore" folder to locate your files and folders. Sometimes you have to change the path to this area.
  4. You can get the latest release here. But it is not the final version. But this release might just be the one renamed RTM XP SP3 You can get the stand-alone. And the registry hack to let you download from MS
  5. A "PCI" and a "PCI Express" are different cards. They use different slots. And won't fit in the others slot. Some card type could have the same chipset. One made for each type of board. (It's a money making gimmick)
  6. I see no reason you'd have any problems with your system specs. I run 3 Gigs of ram and do allot of different things at once. Even play some damn good newest game demos. (I want to see what Vista can handle) So far all but one game only I had to use the compatibility wizard with, and it ran great then. You never mentioned your graphic card, That might be the only slow link. But if your not watching internet HDTV or playing the latest and greatest games. Then you should be fine.
  7. For the monitor, I'm not sure. But you can tweak or turn off UAC and won't be bothered as much by it. (might help with the monitor too). To tweak it lookie here This will cut down on allot of popups asking for permission but will still give you security. To turn it off. Click on the picture on the main start window. Click on "Turn User Account Control on or off". Put a check in "Use User Account Control". Click OK and then reboot. Now you wont get bothered at all by anything from UAC.
  8. Now you know.... IE7 has little features that help protect you from the dark and seedier side of the net.... Just what is that homepage you are trying to get to.....
  9. Do you by chance have a download accelerator or speed optimizer installed. That will stop IE7 from connecting. You will have to remove them.
  10. What happens if you bypass your router and direct connect using the modem.
  11. Yes. Drivers right now are the big problem with SP1. You will have to reinstall some from the manufacturer websites to get things working. I run AC97 audio and reinstalling the manufactures drivers fixed the problem I had.

    Happy Easter

Happy Easter to everyone here at BTs
  13. NOTE: If you have customized IE settings. This fix will reset them all to default. And you will have to slowly set them all back to where they were. And you might also have to redo/reinstall/re-allow some ActiveX applications. you might also have to set your browser back to where you had it before. (if you moved things around or customized links). Go and open up the "Tools" dropdown on your browser. Click on "Internet Options" then the "Advanced" tab. Click on "Reset" under "Reset Internet Explorer Settings". Shut down IE, and then reopen. Go back to the same area in "Tools" and click on "Rest
  14. How long is it hanging during the update? If you are stopping after a half hour or so, you might not be waiting long enough. It can take up to one and a half + hours on some systems (depending on the system configuration) to get it all fully loaded. And yes, it could sit there acting like nothing is happening for the longest time. (I mean the longest time too) Oh Yes, and do the stand-alone install of SP1.
  15. Mmmm. As long as you do have a good restore point. I would do the install and see how it goes this time around. After it is installed, reboot your machine a couple of times to make sure things are worked in.
  16. I would say if your motherboard supports pc2 6400 Ram and is compatible with the type. Then it most likely is a problem with one or both sticks of RAM. The OS (XP, Vista, Linux) doesn't care what RAM you use, that's more in the hardware side of things. It could be a bad resistor or capacitor on the memory board that is lower grade and just failed. Or you just overworked the poor things to death right off the start by playing to much with all that power and just burnt the poor things out. No really.. I would say if your old sticks work A-OK. Then something is wrong with compatibility or th
  17. These are two I like and use. Both are free, easy to use, and highly configurable. One is Comodo Firewall Pro. (free) Comodo Firewall Pro The other is PC Tools Firewall Plus. (also free) PC Tools Firewall Plus
  18. Here is a program that let's you play many Windows based games on Linux PCs. PlayOnLinux Looks like you don't need an excuse to use Windows anymore.... Unless you really like it... LOL
  19. Usually the OEM Key is already installed on the motherboard of a name brand machine. If you use the right OEM CD it will always go through without activation needed. I have seen this with both Dell and HP/Compact PCs I have a Dell Test machine that I never have to go through the activation process with. Just reformat and go.
  20. here is a link with all your specs. Look Here You should have three PCI slots. One should be used by the Modem. Yes it looks like only 64bits. But XP will also use system ram for graphics. Shanenin left some good choices.
  21. Try here to find your model. AUTO DETECT(VAIO PCs ONLY) Use the first option to auto detect your PC type
