  1. Power_management This explains Power Managment. If you have anything set up on your laptop thats requires it running. Then the driver might not install. Or it's one you might not need. You Don't have to install every driver listed. Just the ones you need. Windows XP install may have had the right drivers on the disk and installed then while loading the OS. But I would get the networking driver. Sound drivers, graphic drivers and if you have a printer or scanner. Someting like that.
  2. No. I never tried it. But it looks and sounds like a good product. I started using ReadyBoost with Vista and I do like how it makes a difference. I wish I could have had something like Eboostr years ago. If it works with XP like RB works with Vista. It would sure be a good program to have.
  3. Yes... That is one thing with Vista. You do need to have the 2Gig of memory to run good. You can also run ReadyBoost to help with performance.
  4. Here should be everything you need then. Just go through and get the ones you need and install them. ibm.com Looks like every driver you'll need is listed.
  5. Just out of curiosity.... What make and model number is you computer? We might get alot more info for you with this info. Oops LOL... shanenin, you must have been typing the same time as I was....
  6. IBD..... impulsive buying disorder. Some people can't help it, some don't know any better. You see people with impulsive disorders on the net all the time. Just start a topic on why you want to get a Windows OS.... And watch those with IMDs (impulsive Mac disorders) come out.. Or ILD... (impulsive Linux disorders). NO NO NO... I'm just kidding.....
  7. Try This one. Sandra Standard SiSoftware Sandra (the System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant) sisoftware It will give you a rundown on everything in your PC.
  8. A device driver would be my first guess to the delay. Try updating your drivers one at a time. Graphics, sound motherboard. It that doesn't help I'll give you a small list of services you can disable that might solve your problem. But I'm thinking a driver is the problem.
  9. Did he have a second disk that have the computers drivers on it that you can get? You may have to use a friends computer to find and download the drivers you need. At least the ethernet drivers to get your comp connected.
  10. What more can be said
  11. Right now... Security I think. I've been lucky... I haven't had any problems with Vista. And..... Well... I guess maybe it's how some people configure theirs. I do some tweaking to the system.... Make sure I have all the right drivers for my hardware... Hell I'm still running my old NVIDIA GeForce 6600. (it does have a 512 cache). And having found the right drivers for it. It runs like a charm. I can run full AERO desktop with all the goodies running. Have a couple of sidebar gadgets running. None of my graphic programs have even showed any hesitation. I can still run some of my real graphic i
  12. Can you get access to the ISP that's hosting their website? There are some good FTP programs out there like SmartFTP you could use. You can download and upload the pages as needed and change everything there. Or copy their website files to your PC. Make the changes and then upload them. That's what I do. I have my whole site loaded on my PC. I make any or all changes on my PC, and then upload it all at once. and you have no downtime or "Under Construction" pages. Wait... Never mind.. I reread your post.. You want to know how to clean up their PC from your house... Silly me.. Duh...
  13. Fear of the unknown is my worst enemy. Almost always it is never as bad as I thought it was going to be. LOL... Right On
  14. PS.... You said FRESH install. Did you load all the motherboard drivers? Is your ethernet built into the motherboard or a PCI card? Did you install the drivers for the PCI card?
  15. A little bit before my time..... But... Ahhhh, the good old days
  16. I would get one or two and at least play with them. That's how I learned to do things. I now build everything from the ground up myself. Sometimes the most difficult task, is the task never started, for fear of the task.
  17. Can you connect without the router? If you can you might have to run the routers configuration wizard. Your old settings on the router might not reconize the new setup.

  19. You or they will have to call M$ and explain why. (it's not a big hassle, just tell them the motherboard died and it's now a boat anchor). Not sure how many times the OEM can be transfered, but I know they changed their minds on it. But retail can be up to 10 times. Also I am moving this to PC Support as it fits there better.
  20. Yes you do!!! And just wait until you see what I have in store for the comming year.
  21. If you have the spare slots. No. You can use more then one drive for ReadyBoost. Also, If you have spare pins on your motherboard for adding one or more USB slots to your PC. You can get special drives that will plug right onto the motherboard pins.
  22. I did some checking at Connect User Feedback reports. And there are still some issues that are still not resolved with SP1 because of system configurations. Be glad they got the fixes for SP deactivating the CD Key fixed. I never looked... But when you went to the download site for the public preview.. Did you get any options as to which SP you wanted to download? Some are just for the Business and enterprise editions only. Right now it might be too soon to tell what might be causing your problem. It might be something that has not been worked out yet with the Beta. So maybe you might want
