  1. Thanks Pete C. I did go ahead and do the prefetch, and I did the code stuff stater. I also did the copy and paste to the notepad for AOL, ( GUESS WHAT) IT IS GONE!! Thanks again for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My pc seems to be ok now.
  2. How to disable the AVG add-on in my Internet Browser? AVG 8.0 Free Edition contains a plugin for scanning of search results in Google, Yahoo and MSN search engines. This plugin (AVG SafeSearch) is designed for MS Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox Internet browsers. If you would like to disable it kindly proceed as follows: 1. Internet Explorer: * Run Internet Explorer. * Choose the Internet Options from the Tools menu. * Switch on the Programs tab. * Click on the Manage add-ons button. * Select the AVG Safe Search add-on. * Tick in the Disable option at the bottom of this window. * Confirm changes by clicking on the OK button. * Close Internet Explorer and run it again. How do I get to Internet Explorer?? I am REALLY trying to do everything you say, but at times I need specific guidance. I already ran the MSCONFIG, will that be a problem? Thanks for being SO PATIENT!! won't do ANYTHING else, UNTIL I hear from you.
  3. I am TRYING my BEST to follow his advice. On startup ( Big fix,Persistance, Host manager, swg,IgfxTray) is NOT in the list. And I have NO IDEA how to get to internet explorer. I also tried to and thought I did disable AOL. Thanks
  4. It is a lot better on general performance and back up to par on connection ( I am on dialup) Can't get anything else for now. I also went from 1gig of memory to 2gigs. 5. That's just it, AOL is not in my add/remove list in controlpanel. This is what the box that pops up says: The AOL Connectivity Service is not running Restart your computer and try again.
  6. I have done everything that Pete said, and I am going to switch to Firefox. It seems to be almost back to where it was on "THE GRAND SPEED" for dialup, but I am having problems getting rid of AOL. It keeps popping up a message that MY AOL SOMETHING,SOMETHING is messed up and I need to restart my pc to fix this problem. I tried following the tutoral that Pete suggested But, I guess I did something wrong. Also the AOL is still in my tray, and it still seems to turn itself on. Just keep in mind that I AM REALLY DUMBO on pc/s so talk to me like I was a 5 year old. Heck they probably know more than I do.
  7. Thanks a BUNCH Pete C, Getting the grandkids this weekend, so it might be a bit before I can get back. I printed off all the pages for later. Thanks again, Wanda
  8. Here is the new one. Thanks for looking again.
  9. Could be a problem with prefetch not being cleared or not rebuilding. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709618.aspx 9. Do you have ready boost enabled using a readyboost capable USB flash drive? Readyboost copies files used in bootup and loading of programs you use a lot to the flash drive so that they can be copied directly from it to RAM rather than having to find them on the hard drive each time. This can speed up many items quite a bit. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-v...readyboost.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost How do I uninstall AOL?? It is not in the ADD/REMOVE folder. Also, I have "NO IDEA" what you are saying about the ready boost being enabled or not. I am a "COMPUTER DUMMY" so, I try not to do ANYTHING that I know NOTHING about. Can you explain things differently for me? Thanks, Wanda
  10. Hope this is right. Thanks for looking for me. Task_Shot.bmp
  11. I have NO IDEA how to begin to screencap. Now, the computer is doing good "AS" long as I am not on the internet. Before my dialup wasn't anything to brag about, BUT IT HAS NEVER been this SLOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Ok, I disabled the resident shield an checked on the firewall, it is Windows Firewall. I also got my 2gigs of memory yesterday and installed it. I'm still running (TURTLE SLOW). It is hard to figure out wha to do, since there is SO MANY suggestions. Can your ISP cause everything to slow up?

  14. Hi Liz, I'm not sure what you are saying on the Windows firewall. To be HONEST, I don't know what I am running. This whole computer thing has got me on my last raw nerve. I hope this is what you were talking about (THE SPECS) Windows Vista Home Basic, 65.5 fre hard drive, 1gig memory, AVG antivirus (that will not update). What else do you need and how do I find the info for you? Thanks, Wanda
  15. Thanks Honda Boy, Since I'm a computer dummy, I think I'll leave that as a last resort. Thanks again, Wanda
