  1. ok I just noticed today that the onboard graphics driver on the old Sony Vaio comp haven't been updated at all, so after searching around I found these links: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-download...mp;mdl=PCVRS310 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_res...mp;submit=Go%21 the second link seems to be the latest driver, but the first link has a driver from the manufaacturer of the computer, which one should I install? also I was thinking of creating a restore point in case something goes wrong once I update the onboard graphics driver since I have several files on this comp that I don'
  2. We actually checked the back of the rig for any sticker with a product key number, but we couldn't find any, and we didn't see any option to make a recovery from an extra partition on the disk.
  3. In our studyhour my classmate tells me that we can't use his computer for research because he doesn't know the product key. At first, I thought that it shouldn't be a big deal and that something like Berlac Advisor would solve the problem, but it turns out that he was taking about the product key you enter when you are installing windows. Apparently he doesn't remember if he got a product key or not, and when he tried to reinstall the OS, he got stuck at the stage where he has to enter the procut key in the installation process. He says he tried calling Microsoft with his receipts at hand to p
  4. How do I configure the printer so that everyone can print their documents (whether word or excel or a pdf) regardless of whether they are in their rooms or the living room? (all the computers are connected to the same router) do we have to install the driver for the printer on every computer? or can we print only the documents in our "share folder on the network" folder?
  5. ... whenever I pressed the " key but without holding shift I get a strange search bar at the bottom left that says "quick find" and I cant type the symbol below the " does anyone know whats happening here? by the way Im using a desktop keyboard plugged to my laptop Edit: problem is back again whats going on?
  6. didn't know about that SiteAdvisor Add-on for Firefox or all those good links Sultan, thank you both
  7. ...all sorts of smilies for forums? I have seen that sometimes posters of a forum place a smilie that is not available in such forum. Is it a program or something you download? and also is it true what I heard that you get spyware and malware when you download these smilies?
  8. I was just about to purchase that card in the last link I posted when I found these pictures so I guess it's a PCI Express card after all, I wonder why newegg doesn't list it as such http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814131082 I'm just glad I found some pics of the card before actually making the purchase. What do you guys think? I guess it would be better to play it safe and buy shanenin's suggestion.
  9. No, I tried right clicking the drive when the CD was in it and the drive didn't see it at all, which is very strange because it does see the other CDs just fine.
  10. I don't think it is the drive, I have tried many other CDs and they are read just fine, and I checked the back of the disc and there aren't any visible scratches. This is a retail copy bought at a store, and I'm not sure if I should mess with the internal parts, I would if it were a desktop computer, but this is a laptop.
  11. I'm having troubles trying to install the program "Art Explosion Publisher Pro Silver" in the R-51 thinkpad laptop. I have created 2 partitions in this laptop, both partitions are ntfs and Win XP is their OS, I'm trying to install it in the secondary partition, the program has 3 CDs that you have to install, the first 2 go without a problem but for some reason the third and final CD of the installation is not recognized by the DVD/CD-RW drive. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this problem and how to fix it?
  12. One last card to check before setting up for the GeForce 6200, I just want to clear my doubts, is this any good to work with this system? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814131082 I was told that it's better in comparison with the GeForce 6200. However, I want to make sure I don't ran into unexpected issues, like a fuming system, a PSU that doesn't provide enough juice, or a mobo and RAM that can't handle it.
  13. I just found out about this one today: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...=AFC-C8Junction is that pushing it too far for the PSU?
  14. ok so if I installed 1GB stick, it won't be able to read it? just curious, I'll follow your advise and purchased 2x 512 MB sticks then
  15. by the way, the maximum amount of memory for the desktop Sony Vaio is 1GB, so I have a question, does that mean that the only way to upgrade is to get 2 slots? (each of 512 MB for each slot inside the PC) or can I also upgrade by purchasing just one big slot of 1GB? I'm asking this because I wonder if the machine will be capable to detect/use the memory when the max amount is all packed in one slot, instead of being distributed in the 2 slots inside.
  16. ok so what you are saying is that, as long as it is DDR memory it should be fine regardless of the number?
  17. I just noticed something, in the link pdf file JSKY provided with the full specs of the comp http://www.manualshark.org/manualshark/files/4/pdf_3083.pdf it says that the PCV-RS411 uses PC-2100 DDR memory while the one I found for the PCV-RS410 is DDR PC2700. Are these 2 kind of memory the equivalent for each other?
  18. I figured I'd upgrade the RAM memory in this desktop as well so I went over to crucial.com in order to check for the right amount of memory for my system. However, I couldn't find the option to select the exact PCV-RS411 model, the closest one I found was the PCV-RS410 model, is it safe to assume this memory is the appropriate memory for this computer? I have tried to look for this model, but as I said they don't have the PCV-RS411 in the list and the 2 closest ones to the PCV-RS411 model are the PCV-RS410 model and the PCV-RS400 Series model.
  19. I just plan to run a couple of old games (Unreal Tournament 2004 and Call of Duty 2) I wonder if getting a good vid card would improve the fps performance in them, mostly for the former.
  20. so the vid card in your last link shanenin gets a better performance in spite of being 256MB 64-bit instead of 256MB 128-bit?
  21. I didn't know that, guess one like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814143032 wouldn't be a good option to consider either
