  1. how much ram is in your computer? your log is clean, but with the number of programs your running at startup this takes Memory resources. Because of this it could be using the Windows Swap partition due to lack of Ram available. Windows doesn't release the unused Ram very well, so I would recommend using Ramsmart by rubberducky. This is not a free program, but it does have a trial period to use and see if tha makes a difference at all. Otherwise it could be Windows indexing at work, disk defrag does not do any indexing until it is ran, recommended once a month on WinXP.

    Free Cd's

as for burning a CD-R why not use a CD-RW, that way you can erase the disk if you want to and then burn a different distro on it. I try not to use CD-R's when I am burning anything other then Music. CD-RW's are the way to go if you want to save a few dollars on disks. even when they are finalized you can still erase them and reburn them. on average I lose the use of a disk after 25 different burns, if they are full disk burns. 650 to 700mb each.
  3. The key here is that it is in Beta stage.
  4. you can do that under XP style theme also, below is a thumbnail showing how to access and change your color options on XP Style thems.
  5. There of course is the high possibility that what you are hearing are cb/ham radio operators that are storm chasers The stations own radios (some have storm chasers also) Police-state and/or county scanners that they use Or they may even have direct phone line connections that are open constantly to NOAA The only way to be sure is to contact the NOAA office at the number I gave you earlier. Or even call one of the local TV stations, ask for the meteoroligical dept. and talk directly to one of the meteorologists.
  6. hi Torin_Darkflight, If you want to try you can call the local NOAA office in Johnston, A suburb of Des Moines. Their offices are by Saylorville Lake not too far from Camp Dodge on Beaver Ave. Here is their phone Number (515) 270-2614. maybe they can help you out. I live near Ames, so I know how important getting those frequencies are. I just don't have a scanner so I don't need them. Believe it or not I watch the radar quite closely on the computer when we have bad storms coming though. The only time I'm not on the computer during those storms are when I have to take my kids and myself to ou
  7. not sure about google's policies, as for blogger , not sure on that either.
  8. They accept paypal for payments you can use my site to order services, from what I'm seeing your best bet would be the mini-geek plan. Plus I know the owner of gtghosting I was his first customer
  9. if you are seriously interested in possibly going with a paid host or domain name, check the web hosting section of my site. Link is in my signature. here is the flash file I said I would make. Edit:removed file. Dragon
  10. ok, based on that a good place to learn CSS is here. http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp I can make a digital clock in Flash no problems. this is resizeable using HTML code, so you can make it as large or small as you prefer, do you want a date function also? A couple of decent free editors are HTMLKit or Selida HTML Editor
  11. changes are looking great before I go into using css are you using a kind of html editor, like dreamweaver or frontpage, or are you using the web based editor? If you want a decent clock I can create one in Flash that can look either digital or like an old fashioned analog face, le tme know I will be more then glad to build it.
  12. hiya TT, some suggestions per request: change the color scheme, grey and brown are not a good combo, I would recommend either a comination of blue and light grey or, if you want to stick with brown combos, brown and dark orange. (if at all possible stay completely away from dark colors) do away with the clock and weather links, for the following reasons, The clock isn't set up to use a javascript to read the visitors time and put that in place. For the type of page you have going on there, the weather just doesn't fit in. It has no variance on tech issues like you're promoting there. put your
  13. The way Debian/Ubuntu has it set up made /dev/psaux an empty module, basically it was a module that wasn't configured correctly, or they did some of their own tweaking of the module, I dunno, I do know when I did my Kernel compilation, it worked right off the bat. Mouse never glitched or anything. I sent a copy of my Kernel to Debian for inclusion in the repos, but I don't know if they will use it. mainly because I removed all Bluetooth compatability from it which they seem really hip on shoving down everyones throats at the moment. Right Now I'm running DSL on my HDD, space reasons, but I mig
  14. i'm sure it depends on what exactly has been installed on the computer. just be careful of doing it, especially on someone elses computer, I didn't know about my sound issue until I rebooted the computer.
  15. If your drive has already been converted to NTFS it cannot be converted back to fat32, that is why you had the problems. NTFS is a permanent setting, the only way to remove that formatting is by replacing the Hard Drive with a completely new, unformatted one. It is normal for a drive that was pre-installed with Windows to already be formatted in NTFS.
  16. encryption technology is used when the data is put on the HDD
  17. Bummer, that's a drag! Yes, I remember you said you had issues with your mouse before. For me if hardware doesn't work in Linux I'll replace it with something that does. Perhaps buy a cheap mechanical mouse that'll work and keep your optical as a spare? I really think you would like Debian. so far I like all the Debian based distro, I might download Sarge later and give that a try. who knows Or I might jsut say the heck with it and create my own Debian based Distro, lightweight, yet easily used by a newbie.
  18. Cool, very nce. I've been wanting to try out DSL for some time. I've got an old Pll 266 that would just rip with DSL. That would be fun:-) in the image, if you enlarge it enough, you can actually see the specs of disk space avialable and used. I have a 5gig hdd, and after partioning, installing, and adding programs, I still have 3.2 gig avialable. When I did the partition, I made my swap 1 gig in size, and then I have almost 800mb still free on my hdd should I decide to make a fat32 swap space. Looks good, your system is running lean and fast. You're a big fan of Debian based distros (Ub
  19. if it doesn't give you the option do a repair install, then it's not detecting the operating system. That almost sounds like a virus wiped your hard drive.
  20. well at least you didn't end up in the hospital again, glad to see you're still alive and kicking, see ya in chat, I hope. I'll be there in about an hour and a half.
  21. write permission was given to the directory, it was trying to lock it as part of the operating system, which has to be loaded at boot time. Now when I shut down DSL, I get an error that xxxxx files media is missing. go figure. I'm looking further into this.
  22. I don't know, I think it is tied to one of the folders for VIA realtek, all I know is when I cleaned that folder out, and only that folder, I lost all sound on my computer. That tells me there is more in that temp folder then we may think. I'm investigating it now.
  23. i did this process on my winxp machine, it removed a file for my sound drivers to work. dunno which one it was, I just did a hard reset and booted from last known config.
  24. You could try logging on as root, then as root right click the file, choose properties, then click on permissions, change the permissions on the file so you can delete it. tried that it didn't work, but I got rid of it, luckily my son wanted to play his games on Windows, so when I rebooted I was able to delete it go figure
  25. actually motherboards designed for AMD CPU's come with a utility that allows you to safely oc them. AMD chips are designed for OC more so then Intel chips are. the utility that comes with the MOBO is designed to keep from frying the chipset, based on ACPI info that the MOBO supplies. The software that the MOBO comes with will reduce the OC if the chip gets too hot. I can currently and safely oc my AMD chip an extra 2.0, I just choose not to because it is fast enough as it is currently set.
