  2. The only difference between the Mac and the PC is keyboard shortcuts that are used. For example in Flash the layout is exactly the same, the rendering is the same etc... but the keyboard shortcuts are different.

macs can require up to 3 keys to do the same as the ctrl-(key) combo

  3. I ran into a similar problem with Ubuntu after I moved here and went on cable broadband, here is how I fixed it.

I got my info from WinXP for my connection using

start>network connections>hihglighted the ethernet connection and looked in the left frame at the bottom for my subnet mask, IP, and Gateway address.

In Ubuntu I opened the eth0 properties dialog and manually entred the same info.

    System>admin tools>networking.

Highlight the ethernet connection and click on Properties

make sure that the check mark for making it active is checked, then choose static IP instead of DHCP. Cable Brodband uses a router system for it connection point, so the IP address is, in essence, a static IP.

take your Windows information and fill in the blanks. Save and then reboot to make sure it takes the change, you should have Internet access now.

    Hope This Helps.

  4. sure, I bet image verification would be very hard to get around.

It is. That's why this has to be People and not Bots IMO. AFAIK, nobody has made a bot that can read the image and respond correctly to it, since the fonts used are not commonly recognized.

I've even had some that I couldn't read myself sometimes, and had to re-register to get to one that I could read...yeesh!

I've been floating around the board for a while and just noticed this thread.

Dave is actually incorrect about nobody making bots that can read the image. they are out there. I'm not going to give links here for obvious reasons, however they do exist. I found one a couple of weeks ago for $400 USD made by a company in New York called Peer 1 Network Inc.

Here is a little info on their product FAQ page.

    • # Mutithreaded submitting: over 50 simultaneously running threads possible! (30 threads are recommended for optimal performance under 128 Kbps bandwidth)
      # Software can perform registration at forums (if necessary for posting messages) and automatically fill in the required fields. Upon successful registration [program name] posts the user-specified message and/or links.
      # The powerful built-in proxy-server checking script locates available proxy-servers worldwide, choosing anonymous addresses among them.
      # Software is able to work with lots of different types of forums and guestbooks: phpBB and PHP-Nuke with any modifications, yaBB, VBulletin, Invision Power Board, IconBoard, UltimateBB, exBB, phorum.org, wiki, different types of bulletin boards and even custom-written code.
      # Attention: unique feature – software works around EVERY possible type of protection from automatic registration, including:
      - Pictocode protection (tickets, captcha), which look something like: "Enter the number you see in the box". Details...
      - E-mail activation protection. Details...
      - Java-script protection. Details...
      # During the process of posting a detailed log is created with precise path-links to posted messages so that you can check every link and every posted message afterwards.
      # A built-in proprietary "Question-answer" system.
      # A variations system, using which you can post up to 10000 messages all looking different but with similar contextual meaning and the user-defined hyperlinks in them. It helps to broaden the key queries (for Search Engine optimization) and protect your posts from being filtered out by Search Engines (that is, your posts will be included in SERPs).
      # If the forum has more than one category, the software chooses the one most suitable for the message, otherwise it sends the message to off-top, flame sections or the like, and in case those do not exist - to the most visited category on the forum.
      # BB-code can be used.
      # The following forum base processing tools are included: repeated links deletion, hit descending sort, service denial according to customizable black list, and various filters. The program informs the users about availability of new versions and possesses many other powerful features.

The system is fully user-independent and requires minimum skills to handle: you only need to choose the proper links database, create a message text with one or several hyperlinks and hit the 'Start' button. THAT IS ALL.

The software package includes the Hrefer program and databases with links to more than 72.000 forums.

They have recently revamped their system, because when I saw it the first time, they were stating that spamming forums was legal and did not violate the canned spam law. So there is no such thing as safety against the bots anymore.

  5. Dell computers used to come with linux, but it wasn't very popular.

They still do, but their licenses with Microsoft restricts how they can advertise it, and requires them to put up the message saying , Dell recommends windows XP

Right! If you do a bit of digging at Dell you can find some servers that hint about Linux, but, there isn't any direct hype about Linux. M$ has a lock on Dell. Perhaps as more people want Linux/Unix then Dell will provide it. This will take time. aaarrrggghhh :D

    http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global....;l=en&s=biz

it's too bad they are only showing it offered on their Servers. Now if they would start mainstreaming it on their desktops more.

I agree Hitest, we are seeing a nice trend for linux. I have talked to a number of people this past month that want me to move them over to linux. I'm starting to run out of time to them all, hehe. let's keep em rolling.

  6. I looked at Zazzle and uberprints code. are you ready for this?

Thats not all flash. it's actually .ASP with a Flash header and navigation set. which makes more sense since .ASP is designed to use MySQL better then Flash. However, Flash can use MySQL for similar results. I will see what I can find to put this together for you.

Wow...yeah, I've never even touched ASP, so this really is over my head. Seriously, any help will be appreciated.....

    Thank you.

well not much luck on finding ways to get Flash to work with MySQL without a lot of AS2.0. What languages do you know besides flash, and html?

  7. we got about an 1/8 of an inch here in Des Moines, IA. I'm looking out my window now and almost all of it is melted already. What is left will be gone today.

I'm not complaining, up in Algona which is 3 counties north of me, got 13 inches of it.

The thing that really cracks me up when it comes to winter, and I'm just as guilty, is people complaining about the snow if they in the northern half of the country. Why is it that we live here, and complain about the snow? If we don't like it why don't we all move south where it's warmer?

  8. hello Lotus,

unfortunately you won't find a Flash template for what you are looking for that is free.

Also will you have access to their MySQL database and do you understand PHP very clearly? What you will have to do is make a flash file that calls a PHP file so the MySQL Database can be called upon with the information.

So in essence, you need to make 2 separate files to acheive one thing. and this will require some advanced AS2.0 to be able to succeed.

Yes, I have access to the MySQL database, and I have a pretty basic understanding of how PHP works. I'm pretty well aware that this is not going to be an easy task, but I'm trying to find the easiest way to do it. ZenCart support basically said I'd have to create my own feed and insert it myself....however, the more I look into this, the more I'm starting to think I need to find someone that's better with programming and such. While I can do a few things with actionscript, this is pretty much beyond my capabilities.

Umm...any badass flash developers out there?

  10. I have combined these two topics since they are the same issue.

would you please make a new hijack this log, as the most recent one I see on this is 5/11/06.

This will not give us an accurate view of what is going on with your computer since it is 6 months old.

I have also looked at the logs you have posted at other pc tech boards and there you are also using old copies of Hijack this log. That is why nothing they are having you to do is working. and all of them are in the last week.

  11. sorry BubbaBob,

I missed one on my previous review,

run Hijack This again and check this entry and then, making sure you have No Internet Explorer Windows open, including this one, Press the "Fix Checked" Button with HijackThis.

Reboot If I have specified below, and Post a Fresh HijackThis log.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {39f25b12-74ff-4079-a51f-1d70f5b08b84} - D:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt2.dll

After this, Reboot into safe mode and Delete the following file:

    D:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt2.dll

  12. Please look over the Following Entries I have listed, run Hijack This again and check them and then, making sure you have No Internet Explorer Windows open, including this one, Press the "Fix Checked" Button with HijackThis.

Reboot If I have specified below, and Post a Fresh HijackThis log.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ipWins] D:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe

After this, Reboot into safe mode (This can be done by tapping F8 while your machine restarts) and Delete the following files:

    D:\WINDOWS\system32\ishost.exe

    D:\WINDOWS\system32\isnotify.exe

    D:\WINDOWS\system32\issearch.exe

    D:\WINDOWS\system32\ismini.exe

    D:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe

    D:\Program Files\Common Files\{4CC10404-0A21-1033-0628-040403240001}\Update.exe

Note: Make sure you have Set Windows to show Hidden Files & Folders before you Start deleting deleting them. This can be done by looking at the instructions at This Webpage http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

  13. I was looking for one of these and found it. Luckily I denied any outgoing service connections from it in my firewall. Thank you kpf :)

I still have the infected file on my machine, although it is in quarantine by Anti-Vir, my antivirus program.

this is a nasty little bugger I found, even doing a system restore doesn't get rid of it all. It hooks itself into other programs to try and stay alive. I'm compiling a list of those files soon, after I find them all, so we know what all they are affecting.

if you get told you need a codec pack called TrueCodec, don't install it, this is the one I'm working with now.

  14. Thanks Bubba Bob, I really was just wondering about downloading updates for SP2?

You said this was a refubished computer. Any company worth their salt would already have SP2 installed before selling the machine.

Even a brand new machine comes with SP2 pre-installed.

at most you might have to just do the most recent updates. say the ones in last 2 or 3 months. Refurbished units rarely are on the shelf for longer than that.

I also have to agree with Rhema7, That machine does need more Ram. I would highly recommend a minimum of 512MB of Ram in that machine to get a decent run on the processor and to really enjoy using WinXP

  15. Iccaros sorry to pop in here, but I think I see the problems already. She is not using the standard Ubuntu Repos.

I think when she went to close out automatix she hit cancel instead of ok and kept the sources list from automatix which uses different repos.

    @Mychal007,

I have attached a file to this post, download this file to your desktop.

This will overwrite your current sources.list file to the correct one to use for Ubuntu Breezy Badger, which it seems you are running. If you are using Dapper Drake or Warty Warthog, don't use this. but let me know so I can get you the correct sources.list file. Then in terminal do the following:

    sudo su

    type your password

This will put you in superuser mode, aka Root.

next type the following in Terminal in the order presented.

    cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources_backup.list
    cp ~desktop/sources.list.tar.gz /etc/apt/sources.list.tar.gz
    tar -zxvf /etc/apt/sources.list.tar.gz
    exit
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install mozilla-mplayer w32codecs

When a repository in this list has a GPG key, you may need to add that to the APT trusted keys. You can do this with the following commands (replace KEY with the key ID)

    gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv KEY
gpg --export --armor KEY | sudo apt-key add -

    sources.list.tar.gz
