  1. I'm not sure how many Excel experts are out there, but I've got a question for you. I'm creating a worksheet for a budget (New Year's resolution) and I want to enter in a formula to add up the totals for a given category. For example, I have categories in column B (gas, clothes, groceries, etc.) and the amount in column D. What I would like to do is have a seperate column that adds up all of the totals in the category of groceries and the total in clothes. I'm assuming this would be like the IF statements, but I'm really bad at using formulas in Excel. If you know the answer or could point me
  2. My sister-in-law is having a strange problem. After she gets done printing something, her keyboard no longer responds. She can use her mouse and everything else works fine, she just can't type anything. I tried replacing the keyboard, but that didn't change anything. I looked in the event viewer and there were a lot of application errors. All of the errors had an event id of 1517 or 1524. I looked them up and saw people had problems with AVG that was causing this. They claimed uninstalling and reinstalling this would fix it. I uninstalled and reinstalled AVG but that didn't help. Any other sug
  3. Mikex: They walked through and set up the outgoing server. I double checked everything they were telling me. This happens with all emails, no matter what size. The only thing I've noticed is that, if I'm sending an email to someone that uses the sames ISP email address, it goes through just fine. But, if I try sending it outside of that, I can only do one each time I open Thunderbird. I don't think anything has changed from before. Terrorist: Thanks, I've already ran that to remove everything. Pete: I haven't switched ISPs. I've been using this one, problem free, for over a year. If it makes a
  4. Garmanma: Yes, the firewall was still turned off when they quit sending again. I installed the free AVG so that shouldn't be scanning any emails. Falcon: It just stopped working after a couple of minutes, I'm not sure how long. I'm using DSL, with a router. I'm 99% sure I uninstalled Norton correctly. I turned the firewall back on, but checked all of the mail access and server options for exceptions to the firewall. Now, when I open Thunderbird, I am able to send an email to anyone at any address. But after that 1 email, I get the error. If I close the program and reopen it, it does the same t
  5. I having trouble with sending emails, receiving them is no problem. When I try to send an email I get the Send Message Error that says the message couldn't be sent because connecting to the SMTP server failed. I switched from using Outlook Express to Mozilla Thunderbird hoping it would help, but it didn't. I've contact my ISP tech support and they walked me through to make sure the server settings were correct and they were. They thought it might be something with my anti-virus, but I just removed Norton and installed AVG, but that still doesn't work. I turned off Windows Firewall and a couple
  6. I downgraded to Windows 2000 due to a slow computer. By default the IE browser is at 5.0, but a lot of the things I am trying to reinstall are saying I need 5.5 or better. I downloaded IE 6, but during setup it stops at the same point every time saying it couldn't download the required components. Is it because I'm going from IE 5 to IE 6? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  7. I'm trying to downgrade a laptop to windows 2000 from XP. Its running on the bare minimum for memory and is very slow. Do I have to unistall XP and then install 2000 or can I just use the 2000 CD and do the downgrade from there? Thanks.
  8. Whenever I try to save a picture in IE, it only gives me the option of saving it as a Bitmap and not a JPEG. Any thoughts?
  9. Everything's good to go. It wasn't letting me release then renew a new ip address. I used the repair tool in the LAN settings and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for all your suggestions.
  10. I just moved into an apartment complex that offers free internet. I had to buy an ethernet bridge from the ISP, and after following all the directions, I still can't get connected. The LED lights on the front of the box are all on, and on the PC it says I am connected (100mbps). I still can't figure it out.
