  1. An Old Farmer's Advice: * Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. * Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance. * Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. * A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor. * Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled. * Meanness don't jes' happen overnight. * Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads. * Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you. * It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge. * You cannot unsay a cruel word. * Every path has a few puddles. * When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. * The best sermons are lived, not preached. * Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway. * Don't judge folks by their relatives. * Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. * Live a good, honorable life Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time. * Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none. * Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. * If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'. * Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got. * The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'. * Always drink upstream from the herd. * Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. * Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in. * If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around. * Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God!
  2. Good to see ya back again Sultan!
  3. Thanks Chappy! A+ on the instructions! Used it once already. That's gonna be mighty handy and save some time.
  4. Hey thesidekickcat, jcl covered everything better than I could've! Just want to add a couple of things. No, no ads popup. Also, before you get Sun Java. In IE go to Tools / Internet Options/ Advanced Tab / uncheck all options for microsoft virtual machine / check the box for enable third party browser extensions. Apply and restart computer to make changes take effect. Then install the latest sun java virtual machine from jcl's link. Go back to Internet Options/ Advanced and check sun java if it isn't. Restart to make sure changes take effect. I don't have java to startup with windows. If you see jusched.exe in the Task Manager, that is Sun Java's automatic update scheduler and is unnecessary. How to stop java upon startup, go to Control Panel / double click the Java applet / Update Tab / un-check "Check for Updates Automatically" / Advanced Tab / click the + next to Miscellaneous and un-check "Place Java icon is systen tray" / Apply / Ok After that you'll be set to go. Any more questions just ask! P.S. Opera is faster than IE or Firefox on my PC! Which will be good since you're on dial-up!
  5. Hi thesidekickcat, I just installed Opera again to get you some screen shots. The only difference between the paid vs and free vs is the ad up top. Opera is just a 3.59 MB download, provided you already have Sun Java. If you don't have sun java then I think it's it's about a 11MB download. The start page is help files and a tutorial. This is what you are greeted with. This way I like it, ad does not blink. OperaStartup This ad blinks about every 4 seconds. OperaStartup2 OperaStartupPage You can change the ad in preferences either way. OperaPreferences Hope this helps. I'll check back tomorrow and leave Opera installed just in case you have more questions.
  6. Hi Marty, I installed Opera today just to try it out again. I've used it before and liked it, but that was a few years ago. I'm so used to Firefox that I gave up on Opera and uninstalled. Opera does have a lot of features! If you'll look in Tool/Preferences, there's all kinds of settings. Wish I could help more. Maybe someone that uses it regularly will chime in? There's plenty of tutorial sites on google if you feel like reading. Google Search: opera tutorials

  8. Javacool Software Knowledge Base A lot of info about SpywareBlaster here. Wilders Security Forums - SpywareBlaster & Other Forum I have used this for about 6 months now and it just adds more protection to SpywareBlaster The Custom Blocking List is updated about once a month or so. So bookmark this site if you decide to use it! http://freehost03.websamba.com/customblock...dex.html?04list If you do not currently have/use a Custom Blocking list: Using a plain text editor (Notepad works fine) create/open a new file, copy & paste the indicated section into it (note the two blank lines at the bottom), name it "customblocking.txt" (without the quotes) and save it to the directory that has the SpywareBlaster executable in it (usually the C:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster directory). Load SpywareBlaster, click on TOOLS, click on CUSTOM BLOCKING, after the list loads (this could take several seconds) right-click in the text box and click SELECT ALL from the popup menu, click on the PROTECT AGAINST CHECKED ITEMS button. The red entries will change to black indicating protection has been enabled. Close SpywareBlaster. That's it, you're done! *If you already have a customblocking.txt file in that folder, then this one will replace it, so say YES to the popup. Just 1 of the threads where I found out about the Custom Blocking List and am a member here. http://forum.worldstart.com/showthread.php?t=60253 ---------------------------------------------------------- A wealth of information on many of the spyware items that SpywareBlaster protects against can be accessed here: http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ OR (for other great Spyware- related information and resources) http://www.spywareinfo.com ---------------------------------------------------------- Comments/suggestions/bug reports can be posted on the Wilders Security forums at: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php?board=34 Prevent Spyware from being installed http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm

  10. That is the way I learned how to do it. Just to add, Almost 4 years ago I wondered about the same thing at the old TechTV boards. Some people were putting links up so fast and I was wondering how were they doing that. I think it was Pete_C who recommended this, create a new folder where ever you want to(I did in My Documents called Tech Q & A, then later created a shortcut to my Quick Launch, one click away)and copy and paste things that pertain to your OS into WordPad or Notepad, because you can't remember everything. I use Notepad myself, example-programs to remove spyware, File/ save as/ Spyware Tools.txt, then I save to Tech Q & A folder. Now I can copy and paste to some one's question fairly quick, instead of going to the web site every time. Screenshot of Tech Q & A folder As you can see I've got well over 200 documents and adding more all the time. Screenshot of Spyware Tools doc. This is for the G4 board. Just make another .txt document for this board or include the same info with different tags for this board. I usually keep it all in one document. I hope this helps.
  11. Good find Marty! That's cool.

  13. I have mine set at 3% too, 80 GB HD. If I need to do a System Restore(which I rarely do any more)I never go back further than 2 weeks, like Dave said. I have got in the habit of setting a Restore Point every day or before installing a program, after uninstalling a program or doing a regedit. Every 2 weeks I clear Restore Points and start over. Here are some helpful sites to some I hope. 14. IDN Spoofing Issue - MozillaZine Forums Also here [iDN spoofing vulnerability: temporary fix (works 100%) - MozillaZine Forums A more clear description of what you need to do: 1. Find your profile. The location varies with operating system: Windows XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\ Windows NT: C:\WINNT\Profiles\[userName]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\xxxxxxxx.default\ Windows 95/98/Me: C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\ Windows 95/98/Me(with user logon): C:\Windows\Profiles\[userName]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\ Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/ MacOS X: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/ MacOS X (alternate): ~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<Profile name>/ xxxxxxxx is a string of 8 random letters/numbers. You may need to enable the viewing of hidden files/folders to find it. 2. Back up the file 'compreg.dat' 3. Right-click on the file 'compreg.dat' and open it with a text editing program - something more advanced that notepad, like wordpad. 4. Use the Find command to search for IDN. Add a # to the beginning of every line containing the text IDN 5. Save the file and exit, and restart Firefox. This worked for me. I have two other profiles also, so I had to change them too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neowin.net - A Browser Exploit That Doesn't Affect IE - Shocks The World Type about:config on address bar -> Type idn on Filter: -> Double click network.enableIDN(set to False).
