5 Quick Fixes for Nook Reading App Problems

Today, Barnes & Noble released the Nook Glowlight Plus which retails for $130 and offers some new features such as multiple reader profiles–so you can easily share your Nook with your SO. And while technology is great when it works, sometimes it doesn’t. So if you are a Nook fan, whether it be of the hardware or the Nook Reading apps, you have likely ran into issues every now and then. But fear not because we have some suggestions on how to fix five of the most common problems with the Nook Reading apps. So, before you go throwing your smartphone or tablet across the room, definitely check out our tips below.

  1. Can’t connect to WiFi

This is most problem usually occurs due to a software issue with your phone, or if you are out of range of a WiFi network or don’t have the correct WiFi password to access the router you are trying to use. Check that the WiFi option on your phone is switched on, that all the settings are correct, and you are using the right password. If you are in a public place, such as a café or an airport, trying to use their free WiFi, you might have to ask a staff member for the WiFi password, which they will be happy to share with you. If you are consistently having trouble with low or dropped WiFi connections then it is worth calling your phone’s technical support number or taking it to the shop where it was purchased to fix the issue as it may be related to internal hardware.

  1. The Nook Reading app won’t install

If the app is having trouble installing, make sure you have the correct and most recent operating system specified to use the app. Additionally, sometimes without realizing it, your phone may start running low on storage space as you download more apps, music, videos, etc. So it’s worth checking to make sure that you have at least 100 MB of free space on your phone’s internal memory for the app as it cannot be stored on an external SD card.

  1. Your Nook Library is full

First of all, congratulations on reading so many books! So what do you do? Well, one big advantage of e-books over physical books is that you don’t have limited shelf space, so if your library is getting full to capacity, there is no need to delete your old books to make room for new ones.

From the library screen in the app, you can select ‘Remove from device’ which won’t actually delete your books but instead will put them into cloud storage to save space on your phone. To read books on the Nook app again, download them from the cloud back to your phone when you need them without having to pay for them a second time. You can also move books into the archive section which will also put it into cloud storage.

If you do decide to remove a book permanently from your library, then select Delete from account. Note that you will have to pay for and download these books again if you want them back so only use this option if you really don’t want a book any longer.

  1. Back copies of magazines were deleted

If you have been subscribing to regular downloads of your favorite magazines but can’t find the old issues in your library any more, don’t worry as they haven’t been deleted permanently. As your library fills up, they will be automatically moved to your archive section to save space on your phone’s internal memory. As mentioned above, this means they are being kept in cloud storage and when you want to read them again, you can download them back to your library at any time.

  1. Books won’t open

If the app crashes when you try to open a book or a book or magazine won’t open after its been downloaded, the simple approach of restarting the app and/or device may work best. Just as it does when almost any electronics won’t work. Try closing and re-opening the app to see if this resets it. You could also try switching your phone off and then turning it back on again as it might be an issue with your phone and not the app.

If all else fails, you can still delete and then reinstall the app for free to your phone. All of your books will remain in your account so nothing will be lost.

Bugs and other technical issues do happen with reading apps as they do with all technology, but most of them have a simple and quick fix if you know how. Don’t forget that you can always contact Nook’s support or even your phone’s support to fix major problems, as Nook’s cloud storage will store all of your books and magazines so that you can access them again even if you have to get a new phone.
