Microsoft Is Finally Back On The Right Track

In the YouTube video introducing the “phone companion” app that will be on Windows 10 PCs to help users install Cortana on their devices, Microsoft seemingly confirmed that Cortana will be coming to iOS and Android devices later this year. The video also shows off Cortana on both Android and iOS, which will look similar to the Windows counterpart and can answer the same queries across devices.

But what really caught my attention in the video (above) was the following line at the end of the video:

“We’re [...]

Rumor: New Surface Pro 4 Reveal in Mid-May

I’ve been using and loving my Surface Pro 3 for about a year now—but, hot damn, I’m ready for a new jammy up in here. A post on SlashGear from last week cites an anonymous tipster, who claims that Microsoft will be revealing the newest iteration of its Surface Pro line sometime this month—which would put the Surface Pro 4’s debut about a year after the reveal of the Surface Pro 3.

The post offers some details about what the new Surface Pro 4 might offer. Since we’ve known since last October that it’ll be compatible with the [...]

More Evidence of an LG Windows Phone Appears

In the wake of yesterday’s cool Windows 10 Continuum feature news from Microsoft Build, it might be interesting to find out as much about cool new Windows Phones as possible. After all, with Continuum, Windows Phones can become full Windows computers as long as they’re hooked up to a monitor and keyboard. As such, I’m very interested to learn that more evidence of a new Windows Phone from LG has popped up on the web.

WinBeta reported on the phone on Monday, having found listings for the device under LG’s Open Source Code [...]

Microsoft Build Highlights: Apps, Mobile Continuum, and Edge

Microsoft’s annual developer conference, Build, is happening in San Francisco right friggin’ now. As such, the company took the occasion to tell attendees (and those watching via stream) about some cool new goodness coming from Redmond this year. Unsurprisingly, a lot of that goodness has to do with its forthcoming new operating system, Windows 10. Join me, won’t you?

Android and iOS Apps on Windows 10

Apparently developers will have an easier time than ever in terms of converting their iOS and Android apps into versions [...]

Microsoft Says HoloLens Will Run Windows Universal Apps

Microsoft’s annual developer conference, Build, is nearly upon us. To get people excited, the company provided more details about one of its buzziest new devices: the HoloLens.

The new goodies come under the Frequently Asked Questions section toward the bottom of the HoloLens page, and they help clear up some confusion about just what the HoloLens is, and how it’ll work. Whereas earlier I thought the HoloLens was merely a peripheral for the PC that will give users a new way to interact with their computers, it turns out that the [...]

Cyanogen Formally Partners with Microsoft

Cyanogen announced a new, formal partnership with Microsoft on Thursday, only months after the Windows maker provided a sizable investment in the Android competitor. The agreement will mean that future versions of Cyanogen will come with Microsoft’s suite of apps pre-loaded.

The partnership will see Microsoft create “native integrations on Cyanogen OS, enabling a powerful new class of experiences.” As for what apps will be available on new Cyanogen installs, the announcement lists the usual suspects: Bing services, Skype, [...]

HTC and LG Might Be Working on New Windows Phones

If you were hoping to get a high-end Windows 10 handset when the revamped mobile OS from Microsoft launches later this year, it seems that HTC and LG will have you covered…probably…maybe.

HTC says “We’ll See”

The company’s CFO Chia-Lin Chang said that HTC is working closely with Microsoft on a Windows 10 handset—but that partnership will only bear fruit depending on whether or not the new operating system is actually any good.

WindowsCentral reports that Chang had this to say when asked at an event in India about whether [...]

Windows Insiders who want to see what their phones of the future might be like can give the Windows 10 Phone Preview a whirl starting right now. You can download it right here if you’re feeling CRAZY, and, well, if you already have a compatible Windows Phone and don’t mind using an unfinished operating system on your mobile device.

So what’s Windows 10 Phone got going on? Microsoft’s VP Joe Belfiore dropped the new features back in February:

As you can see, there are a few new bells and whistles to enjoy, like the ability [...]

Office Lens: A New Scanning App for Android & iOS

A new cross-platform scanning app called Office Lens from Microsoft hit Android and iOS devices on Thursday. It’s the latest move in the company’s ongoing initiative to bring users on different platforms into the Microsoft ecosystem.

Office Lens, which was originally released last year exclusively for Windows Phone is essentially a handheld scanner that relies on your smartphone or tablet’s built-in camera. With it, you can take photos of documents, screens, whiteboards—basically anything with text on it—and save it to OneNote, [...]

Microsoft Announces the Surface 3

Following plenty of rumors that it was in the works, the Surface 3 is here, unveiled by Microsoft on Tuesday. Starting at $499, the Surface 3 is a huge step up from its non-Pro Surface predecessors in that it runs full, 64-bit Windows 8.1, which will be upgradeable to Windows 10 this summer. But it’s got one major drawback that may prevent it from becoming your new portable computer of choice: it’s armed with an Intel Atom x7 processor, making it more of a powerful tablet than a budget computer.

Scheduled to ship on May 5, there [...]
