Demand for Galaxy S6 Higher Than Predicted
If you’ve had the chance to glimpse a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in person, you might not be surprised to learn that demand for the thing is much higher than anyone expected. In fact, both versions of the device are in much higher demand than Samsung had planned for, meaning that if you had the money to shell out for a Galaxy S6, you might wind up waiting a bit before you get one.
The news comes by way of a post on Reuters Wednesday, which quotes Samsung as saying that demand has been “much higher” than expected.
Samsung elaborated a bit in a statement, confirming that it might be harder to get a Galaxy S6 right away:
“Although there may be some difficulties for the short term, we will do our utmost to secure enough supply for our global customers.”
Not too long ago, we heard that Samsung had received over 20 million pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 shortly after its debut at MWC. Funnily enough this is the exact opposite problem Samsung had with the Galaxy S5, which was massively overproduced and resulted in millions of unsold phones sitting in a warehouse somewhere.
What’s it all mean? It seems a lot like Samsung has a hit on its hands. Whether or not it can translate the popularity of the S6 into long term mobile success remains to be seen, however. After all, Samsung had good fortune with its previous smartphones, and then it oversaturated the market with cheaper versions of the same handset. Let’s hope the company has learned enough restraint to keep from doing that again this time around.
