Talking tech since 2003

January 9, 2007 — this was the day that Steve Jobs announced the original iPhone to the world. You may (or may not) remember that right before he unveiled the device for the first time he talked about how Apple created not one, but three revolutionary products: the first product he named was a widescreen iPod with touch controls, the second was a revolutionary mobile phone, and the third was a breakthrough Internet communications device.

“So,” Jobs went on, “Three things…an iPod, a Phone, and an Internet Communicator… are you getting it? These are not three separate devices this is one device and we are calling it iPhone.”

Why am I writing about the original iPhone’s announcement? Because despite it being more than 7 years later (and the sad fact that Jobs is dead), Apple is still following the Steve Jobs method to introducing a product.

We are just hours from when Apple wrapped up its “Spring Forward” event where it introduced a few other things in addition to providing a release date and pricing for the Apple Watch. If you watched the event video, you would have seen that Tim Cook stood up on the stage with a very similar slide behind him.

Now, Steve’s showmanship is clearly not able to be recreated here, but the point is definitely the same. The Apple Watch is not just a revolutionary product, it is in fact, three revolutionary products in one. A timepiece, a messenger, and health companion.

And if you think I’m crazy, head on over to the Apple website and check out the Apple Watch page (and scroll down a little):

Will the Apple Watch be a success? I think so. I’m certainly buying one.

A timepiece, a messenger, and health companion.
