Talking tech since 2003

Want to be super disappointed in your resident Destiny player? I haven’t played a single minute of the game this week, if you don’t count the time I spent jumping to the Tower to check out Xur’s wares.

Those wares, by the way? Sort of disappointing. Especially if you’re sick of a certain primary sniper rifle.

I’ll elaborate.

What’s Xur Got?

No Land Beyond is widely considered to be the worst weapon in Destiny. Few will argue that. It’s an exotic, it takes up your primary weapon spot, and it is NOT powerful. Not in the least. In spite of that, Xur has seen fit to sell No Land Beyond a number of weeks since The Dark Below’s launch. Now, according to Bungie, Xur’s inventory is randomized. But we’ve seen No Land Beyond four or five times, and Gjallarhorn once. I’ve gotta say — I’m not buying Bungie’s story.

Not everything Xur is selling is crap, though. Highlights include an exotic chest engram and — here come the cheers — heavy ammo synthesis. The heavy ammo glitch is supposed to be fixed by the end of the month, but it may not be a bad idea to stock up anyway.

What About the Weeklies?

This week’s Nightfall Strike is the Will of Crota, with Angry, Epic, Juggler, and Lightswitch modifiers. Not sure which strike I’m talking about? I’m sure I can jog your memory with one word — Omnigul. As usual, the Weekly Heroic Strike is the same, just with Angry and Heroic modifiers.

And speaking of that Weekly Heroic Strike, Bungie dropped some very important news yesterday. In the Destiny 1.1.1 patch, Bungie plans to add matchmaking to the Weekly Heroic, meaning that you’ll finally be able to complete this activity if you don’t have any friends to run it with. No changes will be made to the Weekly Nightfall Strike.

Some other good news for raids in general: Bungie said that, as long as you stick with your fireteam, strikes in a strike playlist will be less likely to repeat when 1.1.1 comes around.

The 1.1.1 patch is expected before the end of February.
