Talking tech since 2003

Happy Sunday! Welcome to the latest edition of the Weekend Wrap-Up, where we catch you up on the top tech stories from the past week.

The United States and North Korea are in the news. Sony, T-Mobile, Amazon and Foursquare are, too. Let’s find out why.

U.S. Says North Korea is to Blame for Sony Hack

Blaming North Korea for the Sony cyberattack seemed too obvious; after all, Sony’s movie The Interview focused on assassinating that country’s leader, Kim Jong-un. But after an investigation by security officials. the U.S. felt that all evidence pointed to North Korea as the perpetrator of the attack. The big question now is, how will the United States respond? Where do we go from here, exactly? We’re bound to find out in the coming days.

t-mobile-jumpT-Mobile Unveils ‘Data Stash’

T-Mobile is one of the few carriers still offering an unlimited data plan. Yet the company wants to make sure customers on cheaper plans are getting a great deal, too. At an Uncarrier event this past week, T-Mobile unveiled what it calls “Data Stash,” a feature that lets you roll over unused data to the next month. If you’re a heavy user in some months and a light user in others, this new initiative might be right up your alley.

Amazon Delivers to Manhattan in One Hour with Prime Now

If you think overnight delivery is fast, wait until you hear about the latest Amazon Prime perk for Manhattanites. It’s called “Prime Now,” and it’s Amazon’s way of keeping you from having to hit up the local convenience store. Need daily essential items, like toilet paper or shampoo, in an hour? Amazon can make it happen for $7.99. If you’re willing to wait two hours, however, Amazon won’t charge you for delivery.

Foursquare Comes to the iPad

Foursquare was known best as a location-based check-in app. But after spinning that functionality off into what is now Swarm, the company refocused the Foursquare app to concentrate on venue reviews and ratings. That new Foursquare, which feels a lot like Yelp, now has an iPad edition for those who want to plot out their dinner plans on the couch. It’s available in the App Store right now.
