Sony Releases Firmware Update to Fix Buggy PS4 OS
Everybody’s doing it! From Apple to (almost) Google, it seems that the “hep” thing to do these is release a new, exciting update to an operating system, and then apologize and scramble to fix what you broke. Sony’s in the midst of its own “new OS blues,” and just today released a firmware update designed to alleviate some of the pain of the past few days.
The word out of Sony isn’t particularly triumphant or anything, with this Tweet having gone out from PlayStation Europe community manager Chris Owen earlier today:

If all goes as planned, Version 2.01 will fix some of the problems created by Version 2.0, which was released last week. Those problems, as a reminder, were issues rousting the PlayStation 4 console from Rest Mode, a low-power status that replaces Sleep Mode from the initial version of the operating system. Other users have reported problems with receiving messages and other smaller glitches, though whether or not this newest update addresses those issues too remains to be seen.
In the end, don’t get too mad at Sony, if for no other reason than the fact that they’re but one of many tech companies that releases new software that has a few issues to work out. It’s a fact of our tech-infused life that our gadgets can do far more than products ever could before. As a result, it’s a shakier balancing act to keep everything running as it should. Mess with one thing, you might screw something else up in another part of the code that you’d never anticipated. If you were affected by the recent PS4 problems, hopefully you avoided major damages to your console – otherwise, maybe give Sony a call and give them a piece of your mind.
