Talking tech since 2003

We’ve known for a few weeks that HTC has an event planned this week in NYC – specifically on October 8. Titled “double exposure,” it’s been clear that we’re going to see something having to do with cameras, and details of a GoPro-like device called the RE Camera have already leaked. But it seems that HTC has more than just a new camera to show off this week – like two new smartphones that put a focus on photography.

A new selfie-optimized smartphone called the Desire Eye was leaked by the Twitter account @upleaks last week, and today a post on 9to5Google points the way back to a render posted on Russian tech blog HTCFamily that purports to show another view of the Desire Eye, which features a front-facing flash:

Spec-wise, the post reports that it will feature 13-megapixel cameras on the rear and front of the smartphone, along with a 5.2-inch HD display, 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage. Altogether, that’s a solid package of smartphone, especially for those who like taking photos.

But that isn’t all. Earlier this year, HTC released the HTC One M8, a sleek and well-reviewed smartphone that boasted powerful photo-taking features via the Duo lens set up on the back. That phone was recently re-released running the Windows Phone mobile operating system, and it seems that yet another refresh is on the way. Yesterday, HTC’s Tiwtter account posted this:

Another 9to5Google post speculates that this could be one of two new versions of the One. The first could be the HTC One M8 EYE, a new version of the handset that came out earlier this year with a new 13 megapixel rear camera. The other might be the HTC One Max, “which would simply be a larger variant of the original model.”

Either way, it seems clear that we’ll be seeing a lot from HTC this week – which is just ahead of supposed October events from Apple and Google. All in all, this should be an exciting month for cool tech announcements. Meanwhile, we’ll keep our eyes peeled on the HTC event this week to see what they’ve got planned.
