EA Won’t Remove Games from EA Access
Just a week ago, Electronic Arts announced EA Access, a subscription-based service that allows Xbox One gamers to download and play select EA games that have been placed in “the Vault.” During the closed beta that’s happening right now, the Vault only has four titles – FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 – but some gamers are worried that EA will start removing access to titles as the service continues. Apparently that just ain’t true: EA said today that if a game goes into the Vault, it’ll stay in the Vault for as long as EA Access exists.
The news comes by way of an interview with EA Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore on CVG, who explained how EA Access will stay true to its name, providing gamers with access to all games that are ever put in the vault:
“I think one of the key things is that once a game goes into the Vault it stays there, it’s not going to be taken out, that’s a commitment we’ve made.”
Moreover, Moore also offered hints about the process by which the Vault’s list of titles will grow:
“New game additions will be determined by franchise and timing. We have to make decisions along that way, so there’s no template, like 30 days after a game ships it goes into the Vault.”
All in all, if you’re okay with shelling out $30 for a year to try what might be a really solid video game service on the Xbox One, you’ll probably find lots of games that you enjoy. Meanwhile, if you’re a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 gamer, PlayStation Plus is a comparable service that may cost more per year, but also provides a new list of freebies all the time, with multiple games opening up across plenty of platforms.
Either way, we may soon be approaching the time when we don’t have to buy new games ever again.
