Minecraft Creator "Notch" Cancels Minecraft for Oculus Following Facebook Acquisition
Here it is, the first causality of Facebook’s acquisition of the promising virtual reality company Oculus today. Minecraft and Mojang creator Markus Perrson, better known by his online nickname “Notch”, has just announced on his personal Twitter feed that Mojang has cancelled talks with Oculus to bring the company’s insanely popular indie game Minecraft to the upcoming virtual reality gaming platform, claiming that Facebook “creeps him out.”
We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out.

Notch then went on to further describe his thoughts on the situation on his personal blog, clarifying his position on matter and why the deal has fallen through. “I did not chip in ten grand to seed a first investment round to build value for a Facebook acquisition.” Notch writes before clarifying clarifying, “I definitely want to be a part of VR, but I will not work with Facebook. Their motives are too unclear and shifting, and they haven’t historically been a stable platform.”
This is merely the first example of a changing future for Oculus, whose Oculus Rift virtual reality technology has impressed thousands since its introduction in 2012. Oculus Rift was named the Best of CES 2014 by Engadget earlier this year. Oculus Rift was also named the best gaming showcase of CES 2013 by The Verge last year.
