Talking tech since 2003

Even as we march closer to Samsung’s planned Unpacked event later this month, the rumor mill stops for no man – as today we have two new reports about the potential new phone from Samsung, the Galaxy S5.

The first report, from SamMobile, claims that their “insiders” have given them all the freshest details about the included fingerprint sensor in the Samsung Galaxy S5. This conflicts with our report from earlier this month, compiling and judging all ongoing rumors about the device – in which the fingerprint sensor was almost universally considered a “not happening” feature.

But SamMobile claims differently. The fingerprint sensor will reportedly be located on the device’s central home button, and can be swiped downward to analyze your fingerprint and display it to the screen in real time. The OS, which should be Android 4.4 Kitkat, will apparently be able to register up to 8 fingerprints, and, for whatever reason, assign each one to a different task. This swipe can also be used to login to websites, “without needing to enter your username or password ever again.”

The second report, out of Bloomberg, claims that the new smartphone will host a 5.2-inch screen, sporting a “sharper display than the current Galaxy S4.” The report also claims that the phone will debut alongside a new version of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which Samsung unveiled late last year.

Remember, fellow tech enthusiasts, take each of these reports with a huge spoon of salt. After all, we’ll know all of the official details about the Samsung Galaxy S5, hopefully, come next week.
