Talking tech since 2003

According to the WSJ, Ubuntu smartphones will be available and start shipping in October 2013, meanwhile developers will have access to the new Ubuntu Phone OS starting later this month.

Smartphones running the open source Ubuntu operating system will be available to customers beginning in October 2013, according to Mark Shuttleworth, founder and CEO of Canonical Ltd. Canonical provides services for corporate customers using Ubuntu open source software. Application developers will have access to the smartphone operating system, which is optimized for the Galaxy Nexus handset manufactured by Samsung Electronics Co., in late February.

We originally covered Ubuntu OS in early January and thought it looked like a potentially promising platform. I’m happy to see that actual Ubuntu OS smartphones will be available this year, it will be interesting to see how the device does in the current marketplace.
