Talking tech since 2003

Apple just announced that it has sold 3 million iPads in three days. The official launch of the iPad mini and updated iPad with Retina Display took place this past weekend. Despite seemingly shorter lines and people in the North East still feeling the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, iPad sales didn’t appear to be slow.

The 3 million sales number is a record for iPads, in fact it is double the previous first weekend milestone of 1.5 million Wi-Fi only models sold for the third generation iPad in March. Plus, with the Wi-Fi + Cellular versions of both iPad mini and fourth generation iPad set to ship in a few weeks within the US and several other countries within the year, sales appear stronger than ever.

One thing I’m wondering is why Apple didn’t break down the sales figures for the iPad mini and the 4th generation iPad. Makes you wonder how many iPad minis sold in comparison to 4th generation iPads? We’ll have to see what can be dug up with supply chain information.

What do you think of these sales numbers? Did you get your hands on an iPad mini or 4th generation iPad with Retina Display?
